Teulada Moraira in collaboration with the department of education creates the first “council for children and adolescents”. 13 children have been democratically elected to be part of this council. 13 more will be temporary and all of them are in 5th or 6th grade at the secondary schools CEIP Sant Vicent Ferrer and Cap d’Or or in 1st grade at the ESO of the IES Teulada.
The idea is to learn to better understand and listen to young people and all the diversity they offer. Primarily it will give girls and boys the chance to actively take part in the evolution of the municipality and local life. Let them be part of changes which affect them daily, such as reorganization, construction of new infrastructure, civic security, sustainability, living together, public spirit, sports, culture and much more. It will help them to develop and use civic and ethic values and will teach the young people the competence a democratic society needs. Subjects such as introduction in democratic voting, active participation in civic life, sensitization and defence of rights and obligations, dialogue and acceptance, active listening, respect for different opinions and argumentation and defence of attitudes.
The councillors Raúl Llobel, by proxy of the mayor, and Daniel Ibanco handed out Certificates to each member of the council and encouraged them: “The job you are going to do is very important to us and you will have the difficult task to present your vision of the village”.
Ibanco thanked everybody involved and mentioned that as all citizens share the municipality to live and enjoy it should also be important that they can present their doubts and ideas to make Teulada Moraira an even better place.
From now on the new council will meet one day a month to debate and present ideas through prepared workshops and at the end of the term they will prepare a document with suggestions which will be presented in June 2017 to the local council which will keep the ideas in mind while managing the municipality
