The El Portet beach had severely suffered from the recent storms and a lot of sand got carried away by the waves. Recovery of the sand by nature is impossible. Starting Wednesday March 8, 2017 the governmental department of coastal management will start the necessary reconstruction works on the El Portet beach by distributing 8.000 tons of sand, approximately the amount lost in the storm. Estimated time to accomplish the job is ten days and there will be limited access to the beach during weekdays. The ministry will supervise the works and assures that they will do whatever is necessary to conserve the ecosystem. The councillor Nieves Rodriguez mentioned that the Town Hall is continuously working on the project to recover the beach and tries to conserve it using material with similar properties as nature offers. The project also includes the installation of ecological buoys and the municipality is waiting for the authorization of the department of coastal management.
