During the last seven days the governmental department of coastal management has been working on the El Portet beach.
Main goal of the work was the reconstruction of the contour of the beach. To achieve the goal the sand lost through the recent storms had to be replaced, as it was impossible that nature could repair the caused damage.
This action was part of the emergency plan the provincial service of coastal management is applying to different beaches in the Valencian province which suffered under the recent storms. Amongst them the La Fustera beach in Benissa and the beach Moraig in Poble Nou de Benitachell.
Before undertaking the work a specific ecological study had been elaborated to localise vulnerable and protected species, such as the seabed, and it was ensured that no damage was caused to the ecosystem. Specialists of the governmental department of coastal management supervised the work and they reassured the local services that within three to four weeks the beach will have totally recuperated and that it won´t show any turbidity at the beginning of the tourist season.
The same work needed to be executed on the El Portet beach in the year 1989 and 2003. Both times sand had to be brought in to restore the beach and both times the beach was successfully restored.
Simultaneously to this job the dynamic study of the El Portet beach continues. Special significant data is being recovered frequently allowing access to first-hand information of the characteristics of the El Portet beach. Based on this information it is possible to decide on future work needed to conserve the beach and to protect its singularity.
The Town Hall closely observes the effort to protect and conserve the beach knowing that it is one of the most beautiful spots on the Costa Blanca.
